Drill Powered D-Lock Cutter


For this project, a product was designed to allow council workers to remove illegally parked bikes easily, by cutting the D-Locks (maximum diameter 25mm and grade 40-60 steel). The design was able to cut roughly 11 locks per battery, and be suitable for carrying in the specified carry case (product has a mass of 14.8kg). The basic principle of operation was a lead screw, via a link mechanism, causing two blades to converge, cutting the D-Lock shaft. The report details the general stress and mechanics analysis conducted to reach this end design, and the ideation process used to reach a final workable design.
