The purpose of this experiment was to determine a value for the Young’s modulus of a steel sample, using a cantilever beam bending experiment. In addition, both the physical experiment and the resulting data were analysed in order to ascertain where sources of error may have influenced the data. Through data analysis, including least squares regression lines and weighted averages, the best estimate of the Young’s modulus was determined to be (1.94×1011)±(4.29×108) Pa.
